Academic Writing for Publishing Research Papers

Welcome to Academic Writing for Publishing Research Papers. This course is designed as a research writing studio in which we will investigate how educational research articles work and progressively develop our own research writing for publication.

Across 12 class days, we will move from identifying a scholarly contribution and publication venue through the major components of a research article to peer review, revision, and preparation for publication.

Central course question:

What does my research contribute to educational knowledge, and how can I make that contribution visible to my readers?

Important note about research data

Do I need research data?

No new data collection is required for this course. Students with existing, appropriately collected data may develop an empirical manuscript. Students without existing data will develop the components of a planned research article that can responsibly be written before data collection and will develop analysis, findings, and discussion frameworks rather than inventing results.
